The WGKA was founded in 2010 by Steven Berkowtiz -9th Dan, Hanshi. Berkowitz Sensei served as the first president of the association until his untimely passing in 2018.
Thomas Stanifer – 7th Dan, Kyoshi, served as the 2nd president for a year and a half (2018-2020) before stepping down due to health issues.
William Valdes – 7th Dan, Kyoshi served as the 3rd president from 2020- 2021.
Mike Jones Hanshi was elected as the 4th President in 2021 and continues to lead the association today. Through Jones Sensei efforts several Okinawan Sensei have joined the board of directors and the association has been registered as a 501c3 non-profit with the IRS.
